Since 1996, the Urban Ministry Center has partnered with churches all over Charlotte to open their facilities to provide shelter and food for homeless people during the winter months. Each site offers a warm, safe place to sleep, serves three meals (dinner, breakfast and bag lunch), and then returns guests the following morning to uptown Charlotte. The program is a unique way for us to share God’s love and to serve those who are directly involved with people who are homeless. The simple goal is to keep homeless people from freezing on cold winter nights. A greater goal is to provide a more personal relationship to homeless people, at least for a night, so we can connect and share the hope that is found in Christ.
In the 2009-2010 season, Room in the Inn provided a total of 17,465 overnight accommodations to 1,437 different people. An estimated 10,000 Room in the Inn volunteers throughout Charlotte helped in some way: registering neighbors, driving, making dinner, serving dinner, chaperoning overnight, making sandwiches for lunch, or simply sharing a meal and hope!
FBC Charlotte will be hosting guests every Sunday night from December - March. We will be contacting Life Groups and Bible Fellowship Ministry classes to serve in this very important ministry. If you are looking for more information you can call the church office at 704-375-1446.
